The Chaos Group team is pleased to announce the availability of V-Ray Next 4.10.02 for Autodesk 3ds Max. The long-awaited major update to its production renderer, following five months in public beta. New 'Scene Intelligence' features, new V-Ray GPU rendering architecture, overall speed boosts.

V-Ray Next Build 4.10.02, Update 1.1 - Official Release Date: Dec 18, 2018

Modified features

- Reduce messages about invalid bump normals
- Do not calculate render elements (except denoiser) for viewport IPR
- Consistent lighting render elements
- Hide "single scatter"'s Raytraced (refractive) and Raytraced (solid) modes when V-Ray GPU is current renderer as they are incompatible
- Alembic meshes exported from Phoenix for 3ds Max 2019 can now be rendered with motion blur
- Add empty grid size and resolution options to the user interface
- Optimize volumetric rendering when Smoke Opacity is modulated by a texture

Bug fixes

- Artifacts in alpha channel with many transparent objects
- Incorrect lighting elements on matte objects when "Consistent lighting elements" option is enabled
- Lighting elements are not propagated through refractions with consistent lighting elements enabled
- Lighting from VRayLightMtl with direct illumination is missing in consistent render elements output
- Crash with VRayProxy when switching rendering between viewport and VFB
- Unhiding by category is not updated
- Viewport IPR option is missing in non-English 3ds Max instances
- Alembic VRayProxy copies randomly disappear (since 4.10.01)
- Artifacts with matte and Adaptive Dome light
- Crash when rendering animation sequence with DR and animated lights
- Crash when stopping viewport IPR during compiling kernels phase
- Gradient Ramp stops working when moving the time slider in V-Ray GPU IPR with motion blur
- Production rendering of a sequence with deleted particle source for VRayInstancer returns error (since 4.10.01)
- VRayProxy updating animation stops when its Object ID is changed during IPR (since 4.10.01)
- Animated parameters are not exported
- Wrong placement with selected faces in .vrscenes
- Some spinners in the UI for disabled properties
- Materials with material.ior that depends on a material parameter crash in V-Ray GPU IPR
- Crash to desktop when render element is placed last in the list
- Crash to desktop with VRayPluginNodeMtl in 3ds Max 2013 (since 4.10.01)
- Different buckets in VRayDiffuseFilter and VRayReflection from DR hosts
- The warning about DR and local paths is still appearing even when there is no volume grid in the scene
- The -velocityAttrName parameter does not work for Alembic input files

About V-Ray Next for Autodesk 3ds Max. A major overhaul of V-Ray's two-decades-old code base, V-Ray Next promises a boost in overall rendering performance of "up to 25 percent", according to Chaos Group CTO Vlado Koylazov.

The speed gains are augmented by two of V-Ray Next's key changes: new 'Scene Intelligence' features designed to simplify the set-up of complex scenes, and V-Ray GPU, its new GPU rendering architecture.

Other key features include Nvidia's AI-based OptiX render denoiser, a new physiologically plausible hair shader, a new V-Ray Switch material for look dev work, and a scene lighting analysis system.

Pipeline improvements include support for layered Alembic files, and the V-Ray Plugin material and texture, which enable users to load any material or texture from the standalone edition of the renderer.
