Carlson Civil and Hydrology 2020 Press Release - Date: September 2019

Carlson's latest release of Civil and Hydrology 2020 brings intuitive UI upgrades that provide a more dynamic work experience along with advanced new features including improved surface model and pipe network design.

The upgraded TIN creation and editing utilities are now much more dynamic in their operation. Users can easily make edits with the upgraded Triangulation Surface Manager, track those changes, and apply them when new data is entered. With improved entity linking, points and breaklines automatically update the TIN when modified manually or from Field to Finish.

Triangulation Utilities such as Crop, Cut, Smooth, Simplify, Clean, and the new Carlson Surface Object are designed to work on large surfaces such as those from Point Clouds.

Site Design tools such as the new Draw Template Polylines for creating curbs and the updated Edit-Assign Polyline Elevations greatly improve the efficiency of designing and creating a 3D model.

Dynamic Labels for 3D points, slopes, and polyline vertexes make editing a plan much quicker and easier.

New specific commands for creating parking areas, enhanced curb ramps, and polyline tools aid in parking lot designs.

The Hydrology module offers expanded support for HEC-RAS, EPA SWMM, and SCS routing. There are also enhancements to Culvert Design, Orifice Design, Chanel Lining Analysis, and the Spread Sheet editor, plus more reporting and advancements in utility line Collision Conflict Checking.

Existing users will also be very happy with the new simplified pipe network database that reduces the need for supplemental reference files.

AutoCAD 2020 - Added support for this new version.
IntelliCAD 9.1 - New selection set manager. Improved speed for creating entities. New start page option instead of drawing1. New commands include block editor, vpsync, sysvar editor, publish to PDF, digital signature and convert to mesh. Added method to click command prompt keywords. More support for DGN fonts, line styles and cells.
Context Right Click Menus - For IntelliCAD, added Carlson Point and Label right-click menus.
Twist Screen - For IntelliCAD, added option for mtext and mleader to use a default angle of horizontal to current twist screen.
Install Settings - Added method for install to apply custom program settings during the install.

Zoom Most - New command to zoom to show the bulk of the entities in the drawing and avoid outliers.
3D Viewers - Added clip planes from top and bottom, plus way to enter elevations or screen pick clip plane position. Added x-ray view mode to make surface transparent in window around the cursor. Added method to select more entities from the drawing to add to the current scene. Pick mode displays distance from previous pick point. Added option to label the bounding box with x,y,z. Added methods to texture surface by slope range and to substitute a texture per color. Added setting for pixel size to draw point entities. Added keyboard hot-keys to rotate left/right and up/down. Added settings for default surface colors.

Carlson 2020 with IntelliCAD 9.x

- Compatible with 64 bit Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 10 (Vista and 32 bit are not supported)

Hardware Requirements

Intel Pentium 4 or comparable (minimum), Intel i7 or at least Intel i5 or comparable (recommended). Due to the variety of processors on the market, one can use to do comparative analysis. While the overall processor score matters, the single thread performance is of the most interest.

- 32-bit Windows 7-8.1: 1 gigabyte (GB) of RAM minimum for, 4 GB recommended.
- 64-bit Windows 7-8.1: 2 GB of RAM minimum for, 8+ GB recommended.
- Windows Vista: 1 GB of RAM minimum, 4 GB recommended.
- Windows XP: 512 megabytes (MB) of RAM minimum, 2 GB recommended.

Graphics card compatible with OpenGL Version 1.4 or higher:

- Recommended are desktop graphics level discrete (not integrated cards like Intel HD) graphics cards.
- Preferably Nvidia Geforce due to their more consistent driver support.
- Discrete ATI/AMD cards will be adequate, but ATI's driver support has been spotty and user is frequently deferred to the computer manufacturer for support.
- Professional Nvidia Quadro cards are not currently recommended due to driver issues.
- Powerful gaming cards are not required and probably would not provide as much benefit as investment in more memory or better CPU
